Palestinian Wastewater Engineers Group (PWEG) works in partnership with the German Consulting Company Schneider on a project funded by the TOBB-BIS and the German Development Bank (KfW), this project which is 3 km north of Jenin city near to the green line and Haifa port on the Mediterranean Sea, is under implemented on 1000 Dunums land area under the name of “Jenin Industrial Free Zone”. Industries in the Zone are going to be small to medium in addition to different food industries, this project will offer 5,000 direct job opportunities, and thousands of indirect opportunities.

The project aimed to strengthen the cooperation among local authorities, to finalize the development of policies and planning tools for sustainable water management in urban areas, and support the spread of good governance principles. In addition it improved the quality level of essential public services provided by partner local authorities in the field of water and sanitation, as well as enabled NGOs intervention in support to local authorities.

The project contributed to the establishment of Bethlehem Governorate water/wastewater utility, implementation of the project led to enhance the Bethlehem Rural West JSCPD Joint Service and the Bethlehem Rural East JSCPD capacities in resolution of water problems and to ensure an effective performance of a water management system in the area, improved water and wastewater management and finally assisted in enhancing the technical capacities and institutional performance of the local authorities in the Western and Eastern Bethlehem areas.
